Short version: on our oven door, baked-on grease came off when we gently scrubbed the cold glass with a slightly damp dishwasher tablet, then wiped the surface thoroughly with clean water. Check the oven manufacturer's care instructions first and test a small area.
Our oven glass had gradually built up a stubborn brown film that normal dish soap, baking soda and several cleaning sprays did not fully remove. We cook a lot, so the door gets dirty quickly.

The dishwasher-tablet method
The trick is very simple. I remembered seeing a cleaning hack using a dishwasher tablet as a small abrasive cleaning block, so we tried it.
- Let the oven and glass cool completely.
- Wet a dishwasher tablet very lightly.
- Rub the greasy areas gently with small movements.
- If the tablet dries out, add a little more water rather than pressing harder.
- When the residue loosens, wipe the glass several times with clean water and a cloth.
- Dry the surface and inspect it before using the oven again.
On our door, the baked-on grease released within a few minutes. The same approach has also worked for us on some oven trays, although surface materials differ, so I would always test first.
Why I would not use maximum force
Oven doors are not all made the same way. Some have coatings, printed markings or special glass treatments. A dishwasher tablet can be abrasive, so the useful part of this trick is the combination of mild moisture and patient rubbing—not brute force.
If your manufacturer specifically warns against abrasive cleaning products, follow that advice instead.
What did not work as well for us
Before trying this, we had used ordinary dish soap, soft soap, baking soda and dedicated oven-cleaning products. They helped with fresh dirt but did not completely shift the old baked-on layer on our particular door.
This is one of those household tricks I like because it uses something we already had at home and solved the actual problem quickly. Just remember that a useful cleaning hack is still subordinate to the care instructions for the surface you are cleaning.
